That is such an interesting experiment! Might have to try it sometime. It would make a fun family home evening.

I think words carry so much meaning, and so much is communicated through attitude and approach. Having a loving and kind approach almost always results in the other person feeling cared for and respected, while an accusatory or critical approach is almost always destructive.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'll get on to making the changes as soon as I get a chance. I'll put a notice on the post that there is some differences between this and the current handbook. Thanks again...

I printed this off this morning and compared some of the verbage with the new handbook. Almost everything is correct except for a few things under: sealing and anointing, name and blessing child, consecrating oil, father's blessing, dedicating graves. The wording is mostly accurate but again I think with the new handbooks they have added a couple of changes. Thank you for taking the time to do this though, that is a lot of work. This makes a great Father's Day gift. Thanks again!

When I made my last comment, I had no idea where my Patriarchal Blessing was. Well, someone had me sort some papers today and I found it. I read it. It has been so long. I have a very short blessing. Yet it has everything that I desire in this in the next if I am worthy.

This is a beautiful post. Thank you for sharing the insights that you gained from your Stake Patriarch.

My father-in-law also was a Patriarch, in his Stake. He passed away a few years ago. He gave most of my children their blessings. Two weeks before his died, he rose from his sick bed, literally, to give my youngest son his patriarchal blessing. I believe it was his 599th. It was an incredible experience. We dearly love our Patriarchs of the Church!

Helaman, I also wanted to express that when one of my friends and his or her family is going through such a situation as you discuss without details here, I feel sad for them. While I do not know the details as you have not shared, I feel for your pain. I know of someone from another online forum who went through a lot with her family. I don't know exactly what it was either. I am not sure if things are better now but a lot of time has passed. She said her husband believed in always putting his feet where they should be in Church even when it was hard. By making that firm decision, they did it even when it was hard. I assume it got easier. I respected them so much for that.

I appreciate that you really seek to forgive. Having a forgiving heart is wonderful. Perhaps this experience does help you to understand those who struggle with forgiveness. By the way, I did a post at the blog started by my sister regarding gossip a few weeks ago that you may find interesting. I hope you are having a nice Memorial Day!
